If you’ve never heard of the term, you may be thinking what is scalp micropigmentation? You’ve likely heard about male pattern baldness, hair thinning, or alopecia. These terms simply are types of hair loss on a region of the head or the entire head. Hair loss can happen to both men and women at any age. Scalp micropigmentation is a hair modern hair loss treatment.
In this article and accompanying video, Jerod tells you what you need to know about scalp micropigmentation, how he originally came across it, why you should choose it, and other info you can get from Scalp International Hairlines or our partners about SMP.
How it Started
What is scalp micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp micropigmentation is the process of replicating your individual hair follicles, thousands of times across your head to achieve the look that you have a full head of hair. If your hair is simply thinning and you have enough hair, a density procedure adds fullness to your hair so that you can avoid using messy products like hair fibers. Otherwise if you’ve lost a lot of hair or are bald in other areas, it gives the look of short shaven stubble.
Why choose SMP?
SMP is not a hair loss cure
Scalp Micropigmentation isn’t a cure for hair loss, unfortunately it will not stop hair loss. SMP also will not make your hair grow. It is just a concealment procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are some of the questions that others have asked about SMP that you may also have in your mind? We’re going to answer most of them here.
Is SMP detectable?
It shouldn’t be detectable. Well, unless somebody comes close enough to touch your head and use a microscope (joke). The results will, however, depend on the skill of the technician.
Can I have the hairline of my choice?
Absolutely. However, our technicians will advise you based on their knowledge of the job on which Hairline would look best on you based on the shape of your head and your color.
Is SMP permanent? Will it change color?
Yes, SMP is a tattoo, and like every other tattoo, it is permanent. There are very rare occasions where you might need to touch up the pigments in some years (very rare) to give it that original sharpness. However, nothing happens to the general outlook of it.
Can I scrub, shave, or shampoo my hair after the procedure?
Yes, you can do all that but only after five days of having your SMP done.
Does the SMP procedure hurt?
No, it doesn’t. In fact, I can assure you that you’ll sleep off half of the time.
